Unilab Svoltastudenti brought to the meeting of the National Council of University Students in March 2022 a motion regarding the current condition of students in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The aim is to give a concrete and fast response to students in danger by asking:

  • The extension of the visa, for a new semester, to all students involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict who have finished the Erasmus+ programme in Italy this year.
  • The possibility of a further extension if the above-mentioned political situation continues.

The CNSU is thinking about how to protect students involved in the war between Russia and Ukraine:

In fact, our motion was integrated together with others that envisaged increased funding, the search for DSU accommodation and the creation of specific scholarships. All these, together with ours, were voted unanimously.

In addition, it should be specified that the University Students’ Council has expressed a strong condemnation of the ongoing war and full solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

In conclusion, we expect the Ministry of Universities and Research to initiate a mechanism to protect student communities at risk, regardless of where they come from. The aim must be to protect students potentially at risk, the right to asylum being one of the fundamental human rights.
